OPL Code Camp – Summer 2023

Dates: July 24-27, 2023

    Background

The WeBWorK Open Problem Library contains over 40000 user-contributed problems covering many areas of mathematics, statistics and related fields. Ongoing work needs to be done to organize the collection and keep the problems current. The WeBWorK Project aims to hold regular events to engage members of the community to help with this work.

While previous experience authoring WeBWorK problems is an asset, there will be opportunities to contribute for WeBWorK users of all skill levels.

    Goals

There are many available tasks that would improve the quality of the Open Problem Library (OPL). Some of the tasks below may be undertaken based on the skills and interests of the participants. Other tasks may be added at the suggestion of participants.

    • Curating recent submissions to the OPL to ensure quality and proper tagging.
    • Updating existing problems to conform to current problem authoring standards.  E.g.
      • Converting older problems to use more modern techniques (MathObjects, PGML)
      • Removing coding techniques that will be deprecated in future versions of WeBWorK
      • Improving the documentation and sample problems available to problem authors

    Structure

The meeting will take place virtually on Zoom from July 24-27. Exact start and end times will be determined based on the time zones of the participants. The event will be a combination of group check-ins and independent work.

An optional honorarium will be available to successful applicants. Applicants who intend to accept the honorarium should apply by Friday, July 7. Applications received after that date may not qualify for the honorarium.
